Ellie & Connor’s wedding at Ufton Court in Reading, Berkshire was a fantastic day, with plenty of time set aside to create some truly memorable wedding photographs.

As a Basingstoke-based wedding photographer, I photograph weddings across Hampshire, Berkshire and Surrey, and Ufton Court is a venue I always enjoy working at. Its historic buildings, courtyard and surrounding grounds provide plenty of opportunities for creative and natural wedding photography.

Taking Time for the Photographs

One of the best things about Ellie & Connor’s wedding was having the opportunity to take a little more time for their couple portraits.

While my approach to wedding photography is predominantly documentary, I also love creating a few photographs that are a little more considered and dramatic when the couple are up for it.

We made the most of the venue and spent some extra time creating an epic Bride & Groom portrait, giving us the chance to produce something quite different from the natural photographs happening throughout the rest of the day.

It's a good example of why I think there's a real benefit to allowing a little flexibility in your wedding timeline. You don't need to spend hours posing, but giving your photographer some extra time can allow them to be more creative and produce something genuinely special.

The Cigar Shots

We also took the opportunity to create some cigar photographs of Ellie & Connor.

These are the sorts of images that aren't necessarily about documenting a particular moment from the wedding day. Instead, they're about creating something with a bit more personality — photographs that reflect the couple and give their wedding gallery some variety.

I love combining these more creative portraits with documentary photography. It means the final gallery contains both the genuine moments that happened naturally throughout the day and a handful of images that were deliberately created.

Ufton Court Wedding Photography

Ufton Court is a fantastic venue for this style of photography. The combination of historic architecture, outdoor spaces and surrounding countryside gives plenty of options for both natural photographs and more dramatic portraits.

My approach is always to keep the photography relaxed and enjoyable. Most of the day is spent documenting what's happening naturally, with a little direction when needed for family photographs and couple portraits.

For couples who want something more creative, I'm always happy to spend a little extra time experimenting and making the most of the venue.
